Squish

Squish is an assembly of handmade snuggling ceramic tea cups and vases which are squished together when the clay is still soft so that each piece is shaped by its neighbors, which, in turn, are also shaped by their neighbors. This set, made for Summer Tea 2020, one of the tea gathering events organized by moJoosh, connects to the next set of ceramics made for the next gathering. In this way they make a continuous passage of small vessels. Each piece is stamped with a unique symbol at the bottom so it can be placed back to where it was squished in the group. 

Summer Tea 2020 was held partially on-line through Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After the event, the vessels were mailed to the participants who won the raffle tickets. When the participants meet and place the cups and vases together, they recreate the continuous form.
